"Mediaite has obtained letters sent by President Joe Biden to the heads of seven oil companies, in which he decries “historically high profit margins” and demands answers.

Gas prices have been a major driver of the record inflation that has marred an economy that has been recovering from the coronavirus pandemic at a record pace, and has significantly hampered political prospects for the president’s party.

On Wednesday morning, the White House sent letters to the heads of seven oil companies — Marathon Petroleum Corp, Valero Energy Corp, ExxonMobil, Phillips 66, Chevron, BP, and Shell — demanding answers and assistance.

In the letter, President Biden points out that while Russia’s war against Ukraine has contributed to the rise in gasoline prices, the increase has been out of proportion."
