Opening statements are due to be heard in the trial of Donald Trump over hush money payments to a porn star.

His former lawyer and fixer Michael Cohen says he will testify - and could prove crucial to the prosecution case.

He says he transferred $130,000 to Stormy Daniels in hush-money for an alleged affair with Trump in 2006.

The billionaire has been accused of falsifying business records to conceal a reimbursed payment to keep the liaison secret.

Mr Trump denies the charges against him.

The New York court will witness the first criminal trial of a former US president.
