Delivering his first big speech of the year in east London, Sir Keir Starmer accused Rishi Sunak of offering the country only "more promises and more platitudes".

He called for an end to "sticking plaster politics" and insisted a Labour government "wouldn't spend its way out of the mess made by the Conservatives".
