A project co-founded by Ishmael Alfred Charles, a former child soldier during Sierra Leone’s civil war, is helping save the lives of children with life-threatening illnesses.
The project raises money to send children abroad for treatment.
Dozens from poor families have been treated and are now leading healthy lives.

Al Jazeera's Ahmed Idris met some of the volunteers on the streets of the capital, Freetown.
