Satellite images released this week showed what appeared to be damaged buildings and aircraft at a Russian airbase in Novofedorivka, Crimea, with the annexed region's governor saying at least one person had died as a result of a series of explosions that occurred.

Russian officials have said the explosions were the detonations of stored ammunition, not the result of an attack, while Ukraine has also denied any responsibility.

Residents of Novofedorivka who evacuated the area said when the explosions happened, they were hiding behind garages. One man said that he heard the screams of building residents and saw smoke as well.
