U.K. Prime Minister Boris Johnson said Monday he has “full confidence” in London metropolitan Police Chief, Cressida Dick, after her police officers came under fire for breaking up a protest vigil for Sarah Everard, a 33-year-old woman who went missing while walking home alone and was later found murdered.

Johnson announced Monday there would be an official inquiry into their actions after several attending the vigil were arrested, and critics suggested the force’s tactics were too heavy-handed.

Everard’s killing has provoked a huge outpouring of grief and dismay in Britain and frustration with police over their perceived failure to tackle the issue of violence against women.
