Russia's defence ministry said on Friday it had completed the withdrawal of troops from the western bank of the Dnipro river in Ukraine's southern Kherson region. The ministry said all Russian forces and equipment had been transferred to the left, or eastern, bank of the Dnipro.
It said the withdrawal was completed by 0500 Moscow time (0200 GMT) on Friday morning.
"Not a single unit of military equipment or weapons have been left on the right (western) bank. All Russian servicemen crossed to the left bank," the defence ministry said adding that Russia had not suffered any loss of personnel or equipment during the withdrawal.
However, Ukrainian soldiers found abandoned weapons and ammunition in Kherson on Friday.
Reuters reporters saw a warehouse full of mortar shells and boxes containing ammunition left behind by Russian troops in a village of Blahodatne, 20 km north of Kherson.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said special units of the armed forces were already in Kherson and described the moment as historic.
"Today is a historic day. We are getting the south of the country back, we are getting Kherson back," Zelenskyy said in an evening video address.
