At least eight people were wounded and scores of buildings were damaged in a Russian air attack Monday overnight in the Dnipropetrovsk region of southeastern Ukraine, according to local officials. Russia’s Defence Ministry said it hit military targets in the region, including an airfield.

At least one man was wounded in the attack on Dnipro city and seven people were injured in the Synelnykivskyi district of the Dnipropetrovsk region, governor Serhiy Lysak said on Telegram. Scores of buildings, including private homes, apartment blocks and administrative infrastructure, were damaged or destroyed, Lysak added.

With a Ukrainian counteroffensive looming, Russia has intensified its missile and drone strikes this month after a lull of nearly two months. Waves of attacks now come several times a week, the heaviest of the war. Ukraine's air force said the attack on Dnipro was carried out by 16 different types of missiles and 20 Shahed-136/131 strike drones.

In a separate address from an unidentified location, Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskyy thanked Ukrainian soldiers and said that “from yesterday evening to this morning, 25 'Shaheds' (loitering munition drones used by Russia) were shot down. 25 out of 25, [an] exceptional result.”
