A school in Kharkiv, Ukraine was destroyed by a Russian missile strike early Thursday.

Local officials reported one dead and one wounded. Three women, who took shelter in the school, were evacuated by rescuers.

The school was used as overnight shelter by locals, a local woman told Reuters. It was unclear how many people were in the building during the strike.

Russia's defence ministry said on Thursday in a briefing that it had struck command points of Ukrainian forces near Kharkiv. It was not possible to independently confirm the information.
