Russia's defence ministry said on Thursday that 771 Ukrainian fighters had surrendered from the Azovstal steel plant in the devastated Ukrainian city of Mariupol in the last 24 hours.
Some of the men purported to be surrendered Ukrainian fighters from the Azov regiment could be seen with crutches and eye patches in the footage released by the ministry.
A total of 1,730 fighters have surrendered since Monday, Russian defence ministry spokesperson Igor Konashenkov said, adding that 80 of those were wounded and that those requiring medical attention were being treated in hospital.
Hundreds of Ukrainian fighters have surrendered from the labyrinth of bunkers and tunnels below the vast plant, though Moscow and Kyiv have given different estimates on numbers.
The wounded have been given medical treatment while those who are fit have been taken to a penal colony and are being treated well, said Denis Pushilin, head of the breakaway Donetsk People's Republic.
