Russia launched a fresh wave of drone strikes on several Ukrainian cities, escalating attacks ahead of Victory Day, which celebrates the Soviet Union's victory over Nazi Germany in 1945.

The German army’s surrender took effect late at night on May 8 in Berlin, when it was already May 9 in Moscow, the date which became the Soviet holiday.
