Rocket Lab, an American aerospace manufacturer, caught a used Electron rocket booster from mid-air using a helicopter in New Zealand on Monday.

The launch, called "There And Back Again," is a part of the company's plan to reuse the rockets and lower launch costs, which would be a key milestone in its reusability strategy.

Rocket Lab has previously recovered Electron boosters from the ocean and practiced mid-air catches of dummy rockets, but has not yet attempted to catch an Electron returning from space after an official launch.

It planned on using a helicopter with two pilots and a combination of ropes, parachutes and a heatshield to pluck the 39-foot-tall booster from mid-air.
