Many families across Canada will spend some of the holiday season crouched over infuriating jigsaw puzzles. It's a familiar task to archaeologists whose job can sometimes involve reassembling ancient ruins and artwork.

In particular, archeologists studying the ruins of Pompeii in Italy face painstaking efforts to reconstruct the ancient Roman's city destroyed frescoes.
