A report from Amnesty International and Project Ploughshares has found Canada in contravention of the Arms Trade Treaty, of which it is a signatory to, and called on the Canadian government to revoke permits for arms exports to Saudi Arabia.
Speaking at a media availability alongside Amnesty International, Cesar Jaramillo with Project Plougshares said Canada has the “legal responsibility” to cancel arms sales.
“Each day that Canada continues its arms sales to Saudi Arabia, it’s arms control and humanitarian credentials continue to crumble,” he said.
The report authors also found that the conflict in Yemen has been “directly fueled” by Canada’s arms exports to Saudi Arabia.
