There are rising concerns about a rare and life-threatening disease called babesiosis that is slowly spreading in Canada thanks to the help of the blacklegged tick.

The disease can be serious and even fatal, especially for the elderly and people who are immunosuppressed, according to the U.S. CDC. It can also cause life-threatening complications, including renal, liver and heart failure and respiratory distress syndrome.
