A timelapse video recording released by Cambridge University captured the short-lived flowering of a rare Amazonian cactus called the “moonflower.”
The moonflower Selenicereus Wittii blooms for just 12 hours from sunset to sunrise, and the rare event at Cambridge University’s Bonn Botanic Garden is believed to be a first in the United Kingdom.
The flower emits a sweet-smelling fragrance as it blooms, but the scent turns rancid as the flower closes.
