Congress leader Rahul Gandhi visited the Muruga Mutt in Chitradurga today, a very prominent Lingayat mutt in Karnataka where a seer declared the Congress leader had been initiated into the sect and that would pave way for him to become Prime Minister one day. Lingayat is Karnataka's single largest community.. comprising 17 per cent of the population, and can determine the poll outcome in over 90 seats in north Karnataka out of the state's 224 assembly seats. Lingayat votes has been the traditional vote bank of the BJP. With elections around the corner, the congress is wooing this prominent vote base to ensure their win a majority in 2023 elections.
