In Alberta, the race to replace Jason Kenney is taking shape with eight people announcing their candidacy so far.

Among those in the field include UCP backbencher Leela Aheer, former Wildrose party leader and co-founder of the UCP Brian Jean, mayor of the village of Amisk Bill Rock, UCP legislature member Rajan Sawhney, former Wildrose party leader Danielle Smith, UCP member for Calgary-Shaw Rebecca Schulz, backbench member for Central Peace-Notley constituency Todd Loewen, and UCP member representing Grande-Prairie Wapiti Travis Toews.

And with a provincial election year away, the United Conservative party has little time to waste.
