Throngs of people lined Scotland’s streets as Queen Elizabeth II’s coffin left Balmoral Castle and travelled to Edinburgh on Sunday.

The queen’s coffin left Balmoral Castle at 5 a.m. EST on Sunday, starting off a six-hour journey to the Scottish capital.

Elizabeth’s oak coffin was draped in the Royal Standard of Scotland with a wreath made of flowers taken from the Balmoral estate. The coffin was met by a military guard of honour at the Palace of Holyroodhouse in Edinburgh.

The queen’s body will remain in the Throne Room of the Palace of Holyroodhouse until the afternoon of Sept. 12, when a procession will carry it to St. Giles’ Cathedral.
