Quebec reports 1st AstraZeneca vaccine-related death from blood clots as restrictions eased | FULL

Quebec Premier Francois Legault announced Tuesday the reopening of elementary schools on May 3 in Quebec City and Chaudière-Appalaches, with the exception of Beauce–Lac-Etchemin and part of Bellechasse regions.

The premier said the situation is improving in most regions and pushed back the nightly curfew in Montreal and Laval to 9:30 p.m. beginning next Monday.

During the same press conference, Quebec’s National Director of Public Health Dr. Horacio Arruda announced the first death related to AstraZeneca's COVID-19 vaccine: a 54-year-old woman.

However, he said the province’s vaccination strategy won’t change, stressing the rareness of the event.

Quebec is reporting 899 new cases and 14 additional deaths Tuesday linked to the third wave of the COVID-19 crisis.

Three of those deaths occurred in the past 24 hours while 11 Quebecers died between April 20 and 25.
