President Vladimir Putin said in a televised briefing on Friday that the West was trying to cancel Russian culture, referring to the cancellation of events that involved Russians in some Western countries in the past several weeks.
"They are trying to cancel a whole thousand-year culture, our people," he said.
He went on to lament over the author of the Harry Potter books, J.K. Rowling, who he says was a victim of Western "cancellation culture."
"They have cancelled a children’s writer, Joanne Rowling, because she, the author of the books which spread around the world in hundreds of millions of copies, failed to please the supporters of the so-called gender liberties," Putin said.
