Russian state media released video showing the moments of the prisoner swap of U.S. basketball player Brittney Griner and Russian arms dealer Viktor Bout, which came after months of negotiation between the two countries.

Russian President Vladimir Putin on Friday spoke about the prisoner exchange, saying further swaps between the U.S. and Russia were possible and contacts between the two countries' intelligence agencies would continue.

Griner had been in Russian custody following her arrest in early 2022 after authorities said she was carrying vape cannisters with cannabis oil. She was later sentenced to a penal colony until her recent release.

Bout was detained in 2008 in a sting operation by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration in Bangkok. He was described by the U.S. Justice Department as one of the world's most prolific arms dealers who had sold weapons across the globe to terrorists and America's enemies for decades. Bout has always denied these charges.
