Protests launch across US to protect reproductive freedoms, criticize abortion restrictions

Protesters gathered in cities across the U.S. from Austin, Texas to Albany, N.Y. and even Washington, D.C. on Saturday, as people rallied in support of reproductive freedom and against abortion restrictions.

The protests come just a over a month after Texas' restrictive abortion law came into effect, which bans the procedure when cardiac activity is detected in the embryo, usually around six weeks — sometimes before some women even know they are pregnant.

Washington, D.C. will also be a focal point for abortion rights in the coming months as the Supreme Court is set to hear a case from Mississippi, which could result in the historic Roe v. Wade case to be overturned and with it, abortion rights nationwide.
