Protesters gathered in Tokyo, Japan on Thursday to continue their push for the cancellation of the Summer Games as COVID-19 cases surge in the city, which has seen a record high of daily cases for the third day in a row.
Koji Sugihara, who organized Thursday's protest, said it was contradictory to host the Games and try and prevent COVID-19, "because the Olympics have caused the public to feel relaxed."
Local broadcaster NHK reported the government was ready to declare a state of emergency in four prefectures outside of Tokyo and extend current ones in the city and Okinawa until the end of August.
