One in 10 adults in the UK have turned to private healthcare in addition to the NHS according to a survey published this week.

Spire Healthcare, the second largest provider in the UK, reported an adjusted operating profit of £67.8m - an increase of 24.2% on last year.

Justin Ash, chief executive of Spire Healthcare, told Sky's Ian King where growth in the sector was coming from.

His firm has opened 5 private GP surgeries in the last year said Mr Ash, with "enormous potential" of 41% at the moment.

The record 7.6m people now on NHS waiting lists "could be described as a crisis", he added.
