Following an earlier decision by Barbados, Jamaica is now the latest country planning to sever ties with the British monarchy.

The announcement comes on the heels of Prince William and Duchess Kate's criticized visit to the former British colony.

The Royal couple's tour commemorating the Queen's Platinum Jubilee was intended to be a reminder to Belize, Jamaica and the Bahamas about their special connection to the monarchy - not to dredge up memories of colonialism and slavery.
