Britain's Prince William and Kate Middleton were greeted by chants of "USA" while attending a Boston Celtics game during their visit to the city on Wednesday.

The pair were in town to kick off William's annual environmental prize program in Boston on Wednesday. They were joined by Massachusetts Governor-elect, Maura Healey, and Boston Mayor, Michelle Wu, William made clear the choice of Boston for his Earthshot Prize was by design.

"Sixty years ago, President John F Kennedy's Moonshot speech laid down a challenge to American innovation and ingenuity. 'We choose to go to the moon,' he said, 'not because it is easy, but because it is hard.' It was that Moonshot speech that inspired me to launch the Earthshot Prize with the aim of doing the same for climate change as President Kennedy did for the space race," the prince said.

Earlier in the month, the finalists were unveiled for William's Earthshot prize, which awards 1 million pounds (U.S. $1.12 million) each to five winners developing solutions to major environmental problems.
