Today in Windsor we’ve seen a number of tributes in honour of the Duke of Edinburgh, Prince Philip. Around the community, shop windows have pictures of Prince Philip plastered up, along with a number of them published in local newspapers.
The household cavalry regiment rode through the community, stopping at the gates of Windsor Castle and saluting.
The Earl and Countess of Wessex also visited the Queen. Prince Edward is her youngest son. A number of their children spoke with the BBC about their father. Prince Edward saying "my father was always a great source of support, encouragement and guidance." Prince Charles saying “I think he’d want to be remembered as an individual in his own right really.”
Members of the public left flowers outside Buckingham Palace and Windsor Castle on Saturday, ignoring appeals from authorities and the royal family to refrain from gathering because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Oh, I think everyone’s in shock,” Maureen Field, a 67-year-old Staines resident said. “ I think everyone would like to pay their respects. Because of the virus, a lot of people have to stay away. He didn’t want a big funeral. He wanted a very private time with his family to say their goodbyes, so, we’ve all got to respect that.”
