Lord Admiral Sir Alan West, former First Sea Lord, shares his knowledge of Prince Philip's brief career serving as an officer in the Royal Navy.

This included time deployed during the Second World War, when he was mentioned in despatches while serving in the Mediterranean fleet, operating search lights in the Battle of Cape Matapan.

He later captained the Black Swan-class sloop HMS Magpie in 1950, the only vessel he lead before leaving the Royal Navy.
