Power Outages: Energy sector not in financial crisis - Energy Minister, Dr Mathew Opoku Prempeh

The government is urging Ghanaians to be calm as the Ghana Grid Company works to address the intermittent power outages been experienced in parts of the country. The Energy Minister, Dr. Mathew Opoku Prempeh assures the sector is not in financial crisis, neither is the sector facing generation challenges. According to him, system upgrade is responsible for the intermittent power outages. The minister spent time Tuesday, at the Ghana Grid Company to acquaint himself with the progress of work to improve on the transmission lines to Achimota, Pokuase and Kasoa. There are fears that the most dreaded erratic supply of power popularly referred to as "dumsor" has returned. Since the beginning of 2021, parts of the country have always been plunged into a state of darkness often without prior notice. The situation affects the everyday lives of Ghanaians especially those who rely on electricity to run their businesses. But addressing the media after his tour, Dr. Prempeh called on Ghanaians to bear with the situation assuring the power sector will be stronger after the works.
