Polish farmers organized protests on Friday on the border of Lithuania against the alleged import of Ukrainian grain through the Baltic country.

"Today's protest is taking place to draw attention to the uncontrolled flow of grain into the European single market, grain coming from Ukraine and Russia, because this grain then comes into our country, it arrives in Lithuania, Latvia, documents are changed and those products are then distributed throughout Europe as a European product, which says they meet all standards, but they meet no sanitary standards," Karol Pieczynski, protest organizer said.

However, Vilmantas Vitkauskas, the Lithuanian National Crisis Management Center head, denies the accusations and said, "I think the accusations are false. I think people that are organizing such events are mistaken, and this leads us into some escalation and some problems, logistical problems, between European countries, so it's quite sad."

Meanwhile, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said on Thursday that the Polish government and farmers are on the same side and have the same goal, after meeting with various farmer groups.
