The US is expanding its military footprint in the Philippines in a move that could provide a strategic advantage against China.
The new deal with Manila gives the US access to four new bases and an increased presence at several others.
It completes a chain of American military positions around China ranging from Japan and South Korea in the north to Australia in the south.
