A fifth night of peaceful protests to denounce the imprisonment of Spanish rapper Pablo Hasel has turned into violent clashes between police and protesters in central Barcelona.
Stores in the city's most elegant shopping street were vandalised and firecrackers, rocks and bottles were thrown at police.
The rapper received a nine-month sentence on Tuesday, accused of glorifying “terrorism” and insulting Spain's monarchy in his songs.
The arrest has sparked a national debate over freedom of expression in Spain.
