A provincial police chief said Thursday that the suicide bomber who killed more than 100 people at a mosque in a police compound in the city of Peshawar, Pakistan on Monday was seen wearing a police uniform ahead of the deadly blast.

Moazzam Jan Ansari, chief of Khyber Pashtunkhwa province, said the bomber had been identified as a member of a militant network. He said the bomber had been seen on CCTV footage wearing a helmet and mask, riding his motorbike through the main checkpoint before parking his bike and asking for directions to the mosque. Ansari said police guards thought he was a member of the force and didn't check him.

"Seeing him in police uniform, they thought he was one of their own, their brother in uniform," he told journalists on Thursday. "I admit this was a security lapse. My men could not stop it. This is my fault."
Ansari swore his team would work to find anyone else involved in the bombing, stressing the man who he said committed the crime was "not a Lone Ranger.
