A recent study about Toronto safe consumption sites has sparked debate about the impact they have on communities.
787 overdose fatal events were recorded in the city between May 1, 2017, and Dec 31, 2019. The overdose mortality rate, however, decreased significantly in neighbourhoods that implemented safe consumption sites, according to the Unity Health study.
