Ontario Premier Doug Ford announced on Thursday that the government will not renew the master framework agreement with the Beer Store after it expires on December 31, 2025, calling it the largest expansion of consumer choice and convenience in almost 100 years.

“By no later than January 2026, people in Ontario will be able to buy beer, wine, cider and other ready to drink alcohol beverages like coolers and seltzers at their local convenience store,” Ford said.

He added that the move aligns Ontario with other provinces and the rest of the world, where such sales are commonplace.

He expressed his gratitude towards the Beer Store, acknowledging them as great partners and stating that their relationship will continue to be strong and added, “We're treating people like adults. And I have all the confidence in the world and the people of Ontario that they're going to be responsible with the changes to winemakers in the province.”
