Speaking at a press conference in Concord, Ont., on Wednesday, parliamentary secretary to the minister of natural resources and to the minister of environment and climate change Julie Dabrusin announced the Canadian government has set a 2026 target to mandate electric vehicle sales.

"Regulated sales targets mean the increased supply of zero-emission vehicles across Canada. And when we look at similar measures already in place in British Columbia and Quebec, we know this works," Dabrusin said.

By 2030, the mandate will hit 60 per cent of all sales and by 2035, every passenger vehicle sold in Canada will need to be electric.

And by 2035, every passenger vehicle sold in Canada must be electric. Ottawa plans to issue credits in order to track the sale of electric vehicles.
