New modelling from Imperial College London, using data from England, shows the Omicron COVID-19 variant largely evades immunity from past infection or two vaccine doses.

It estimates the risk of re-infection from Omicron is more than five times greater than that of the Delta variant. It also suggests vaccine effectiveness is between 0 to 20 per cent after two doses and between 55 to 80 per cent after a booster dose.

So what can you do to better protect yourself? What risk does it pose to children who aren't eligible to be vaccinated? And when can we expect to know more about how severe this variant really is?

Global National's Dawna Friesen speaks with infectious diseases physician Dr. Lisa Barrett to answer your questions.
