Angry protests have erupted in the Paris suburb of Nanterre after police shot dead a 17-year-old during a traffic stop.

Youths clashed with officers in the suburb overnight, setting barricades on fire and hurling fireworks. Police used teargas in response and made dozens of arrests. Authorities allege the young motorist refused to obey an order to stop his car. An officer is under investigation for homicide. France's Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin has expressed his sympathy for the teenager and his family, but condemned the violence.
