Naomi Long, former minister of justice for Northern Ireland, says any trade disputes between Northern Irish companies and those in the rest of the EU must be resolved by a body with jurisdiction in both, which may or may not be the ECJ.

She added: "From our perspective, we wanted to communicate to the prime minister the importance of listening to all the parties in Northern Ireland and recognising that over 70% of people in Northern Ireland support remaining within the single market and want to have dual market access and that is the bottom line, irrespective of the DUP's tests."
