Thousands of migrants stranded between the Belarus-Poland border endured cold weather and lack of provided supplies for a fourth day as they waited to cross into the EU.

Polish authorities had stopped two groups of migrants from crossing the border from Belarus late on Thursday, while NGOs called for allowing humanitarian groups and journalists into the area.

"No one deserves to die in a forest. We call for professional humanitarian help for those people," Police actress and volunteer Maja Ostaszewska said during a press conference about the escalating situation.

Poland and the EU have accused Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko of trying to retaliate against EU sanctions by deliberately inviting and forcing migrants toward the Polish border.
