Supporters of Niger's military coup have taken to the streets to protest threats of military intervention. The West African regional bloc known as ECOWAS said it would activate a standby force that could be deployed to restore the country's president to power. Supporters of ousted President Mohamed Bazoum have raised concern about his whereabouts and welfare. Niger’s junta told the U.S. that they would kill deposed President Mohamed Bazoum if ECOWAS attempted any military intervention to restore his rule. He is being detained at his home and has not been seen in public since the junta takeover.
