A newborn baby was killed in a Russian missile attack that hit a maternity hospital in the city of Vilniansk in southeastern Ukraine on Wednesday, Ukrainian officials said.

Reuters video showed a part of a two-storey maternity hospital reduced to rubble, and rescue workers sifting through that rubble. Two hospital wards were seen covered in rubble and a glass door to the hospital was shattered.

The state emergency service said that at the time of the attack a woman with a newborn baby and a doctor were inside.

The doctor and the mother were rescued but the baby died, according to the state emergency service on Telegram.
