Diagnosing diabetes can take multiple steps and visits to doctors and labs, but a new technology has the potential to streamline the process for Type 2 diabetes, making it as simple as speaking into your phone.
Klick Labs vice-president Yan Fossat explains that diabetes in men often results in muscle weakness, and the muscle weakness would carry down all the way to the muscle that controls the voice. Meanwhile in women, a combination of swelling and fluid in the vocal chords also changes the pitch of the voice.
The researchers say they're encouraged by the algorithm's accuracy, with 89 per cent accuracy for women and 86 per cent accuracy for men.
Global’s Katherine Ward has the details.
