Alexei Navalny was about to be released in a prisoner swap prior to his death behind bars, according to Maria Pevchikh, an ally of the late Russian opposition leader.

“Implementing this prisoner swap took two whole years,” Pechikh says, as she and many others blame Russian President Vladimir Putin for Navalny’s death.
