U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken held a joint news conference with NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg at the State Department in Washington, D.C., on Wednesday, addressing concerns ranging from the Turkey-Syria earthquake to the aftermath of the Chinese surveillance balloon.

Blinken said that the U.S. has shared information it has obtained about China's spy balloon with dozens of countries around the world, adding that the U.S. was gaining more information "almost by the hour" on the balloon. Blinken also said that he had discussed the systemic and tactical challenges China presents to the NATO alliance with Stoltenberg.

“What happens in Europe today could happen in Asia tomorrow. China is substantially building up its military forces, including nuclear weapons, without any transparency,” Stoltenberg said. “NATO's allies have real concerns, which we discussed. In this more dangerous and more competitive world, we must continue to strengthen our deterrence on the fence and further increase defence.”

Later in the day, Stoltenberg will also be meeting with Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin and National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan on his trip to the U.S.
