A court in Myanmar has jailed ousted civilian leader Aung San Suu Kyi for four years, for inciting dissent against the military and breaching COVID rules. The verdict was announced by a spokesman for the junta.
Suu Kyi faces a dozen charges, which her supporters say are baseless and politically motivated. The Nobel Peace Prize laureate was detained when the generals seized control of the country last February. Myanmar has been in turmoil since the coup, paralyzed by protests that escalated after a deadly crackdown by the military on its opponents.
