Myanmar’s military rulers have pardoned almost 10,000 prisoners to mark 76 years of independence from Britain

Families and friends of prisoners gathered outside Insein Prison as buses full of released prisoners drove through its gates. It's not clear if any of the released prisoners included the political detainees jailed for opposing army rule.
