Myanmar’s mandatory conscription: Thousands are fleeing the country

The armed forces in Myanmar are struggling with a recruitment problem.
Casualties in the war against rebel forces, desertion and low morale have depleted the ranks.
Mandatory conscription is due to be reintroduced next month.

But many young men are choosing to join the resistance forces, or flee the country instead.
