Numbers are impossible to calculate, but evidence is growing that Russian soldiers are using rape as a weapon of war in Ukraine. In areas retaken from Russian troops, civilians are giving horrifying accounts of sexual violence. The International Court has opened investigations into more than 400 cases, but these will not be the only ones. DW’s Rebecca Ritters went to Bucha on the outskirts of Kyiv, a place already notorious for Russian soldiers killing civilians. There she found the story of one young woman whose parents have been left in horrendous uncertainty.
